SURF MUSIC FROM THE CARIBBEAN
Wadadli, this is the ancient name of the island of Antigua, in the West Indies, and right here
a trio of musicians, originally from Italy, got together a few years ago forming the band,
all moved by a great love for instrumental surf and beach music.
So, with a repertoire of surf music and 60s legendary hits, Wadadli Riders played for the
first time in Antigua just before summer 2005 and since then the have been moving
between Italy and the Caribbean, always with great successes and enthusiastic audiences.
The band started immediately working on original material taking as main influences all
60s surf music, especially
Astronauts,
Centurians,
Dick Dale,
Lively Ones
and a few more artists. As for the covers proposed in the set lists, Wadadli Riders sing
some nice beach music classics hard to hear around, such as Annette Funicello's, keeping
the show very brilliant, energetic and funny.
Lorenzo Valdambrini "Surfer Joe" (drums, guitar, vocals)
www.myspace.com/surferjoemusic
After forming the Pipelines, the very first Italian Beach Boys band, and being playing
with them for more than 10 years and 1500 concerts in Italy and Europe, Lorenzo started
working in surf music's promotion through the web site www.surferjoemusic.com, that in
short times became one of the referring points for news related to the genre.
Moreover he managed directly or in collaboration with other promoters the booking for
many artists including the Beach Boys, Dick Dale, Surfaris, Slacktone, Charades and
many more.
From singing Beach Boys's music with a clear and string falsetto voice, Lorenzo
dedicated himself to the drums and a very classic and jazz style. He then founded an
instrumental surf band called Speedsurfers and did a few gigs. The band was going
extremely well and perspectives were definitely good, especially for some exciting
original material, but he decided to leave Italy to move to Antigua and he stopped any
activity until Wadadli Riders were born.
Lorenzo works at the moment as professional in Antigua with a rock 'n' roll band (the
Hot-Doggers with the famous English guitarist Toby Swann) and a second line-up of
Wadadli Riders where he is the first guitarist, and during summer mostly in Europe with
Wadadli Riders.
Niki (bass, vocals)
She's amazing! After a long and good experience as singer of soul, acid jazz and r'n'b,
she decided to move to something she was more involved into, changing partially his
style and attitudes and dedicating herself to the rock 'n' roll bass playing. Great energy
and punch that together with an amazing voice create an absolutely original mix-up.
Niki learnt to stay on stage very early as she participated since she was a child to many
festivals and singing contests and she has been playing with bands for almost 15 years.
She took also part to some nice theatrical happenings as singer and actress.
Presently she is collaborating with SurferJoeMusic for public relations and works as a
professional musician with Lorenzo in Antigua and Italy both with Hot-Doggers and
Wadadli Riders.
Claudio "Il Santo" (guitar)
www.myspace.com/ilsantodocsurfer
If you want to see a perfect 60s looking guitar you have found one: jazzy and clean style,
very hard when needed, fast and precise. As a maniac of surf music he put a lot of study
in his sound creating anyway his own style. The sound stays in the middle between the
extreme precision of the Astronauts and the aggressivity of the Centurians.
Claudio started playing guitar quite early with lessons of rock 'n' roll and rockabilly and
he got his Telecaster right after that. He continued getting experiences in some projects
and bands until he found out a love for the Jazzmaster that put him straight into surf
music. Since then he has participate to the activity of a few bands and got his own
projects with other musicians and is working now with the Astrophonix in Italy and
Wadadli Riders.
Claudio also collaborates with SurferJoeMusic internationally and works with Number 6
Promotion in Firenze.
